Coming to Bremen
The Department of Production Engineering at the University of Bremen offers students from the School of Materials Science and Engineering at the Shanghai Jiao Tong University the possibility to take part in an individual exchange program of the faculty.
Who can participate in the exchange programme?
Both undergraduate and graduate students as well as PhD-students are welcome to apply for the program.
Important Dates
There are two academic periods for which you can send your applications. For the winter semster starting at the 1st of October the application deadline is the 1st of May (01.05.) and for the summer semster starting at the 1st of April the application deadline is the 1st of November (01.11.). Please note that the minimum length of your stay needs to be 3 months.
How to apply?
For a successful application please provide the following documents in English:
- Letter of motivation of maximum 2 pages, where you state for example why you would like to come to Bremen and what goals you want to achieve during the stay
- Curriculum Vitae, including your picture
- Certified transcript of records
- Certificate of your English skills. The minimum language skill level required is B2 according the European Reference Framework which is equivalent to TOEFL 87iBT/213cBT/550pBT or IELTS 6.0
Please make sure that your application is complete and send it as a .pdf-file to Professor Dr.-Ing. Frank Vollertsen, head of the selection board of the exchange program of the faculty. Please note that incomplete applications will not be considered.

After the selection process you will receive an Email confirming whether your application has been accepted or not.
Next steps
After you have received the confirmation that you have been accepted, you will be contacted by the International Office from the University of Bremen which will provide assistance for example in getting accommodation, applying for your visa or the enrollment at the University of Bremen.
Will I be eligible for funding?
There are no tuition fees, however, there is a fee to be paid for each semester (which includes, for example, the ticket for public transport within the city of Bremen and for some regional trains) and you will also have to provide own funding for accommodation and living cost.
