Tool Lifetime

Enhancement of the Durability of Micro Deep Drawing Tools (SFB747-B3)

The aim of this project is the enhancement of the tools’ lifetime for establishment of stable processes. For this purpose, on the one hand a follow-on tool was developed, with which the micro deep drawing with a stroke rate of 200/min can be carried out. This tool is now being test with other components, such as feeding-system and rewinder-system, which is essential for automatic procedure of micro deep drawing.

On the other hand it is tried to develop a special measuring strategy, with which the change of tool’s surface, especially the surface of the die, can be measured online, so that the wear on forming tools can be detected in time. A special challenge is to measure the small drawing radius (0.12 mm) on the micro drawing die with a diameter of 1.056 mm. Now it is trying to apply a special cone-mirror for this case. When a ring-shaped plane wave illuminates the tool vertically, the edge would scatter almost in all directions. Since very little light is recorded, this area is not measurable. But if a special cone-mirror is applied, all waves can be recorded perfectly. In addition, the solid angle can also be reduced within ± 20°.
