Lasershock Forming
Highspeedforming by laser-induced shock waves (Vo 530/19-1)
Already known for sheet forming with shock waves, as explosive
forming and electro hydraulic forming, can generate components with
very complicate geometries and even undercuts. These methods are
preferred for large area components in individual- and micro-serial
production. The aim of this project was to develop a new forming method
for micro components, which is based on laser-induced shock waves.
Therefore laser shock waves are created by a CO2-laser at
the target forming zone and thereby pressure impulses are applied,
which cause the forming.
The experiments showed that lasershock forming can be used for
stretch-forming of components with a diameter of 1.4 – 12 mm. This
method should be enhanced and like in hydro forming reproduce the
geometry of the die by deep drawing. As targets aluminium-circular
blanks are deep drawn in a rotation symmetric drawing die with defined
blank holder force, whereas the laser pulse works as a punch. The
figure shows a laser shock deep drawing component: The
aluminium-circular blank with a diameter of 6 mm and a thickness of 50
µm was deep drawn with a drawing ratio of 1.5.
