Inspection of CFRP-components and metal-joints with laser ultrasonic
The object of the investigation is the evaluation of laser based ultrasound as a testing device for laser welded t-joints. One major requirement is the one-side access to the object under investigation. So the inspection is realized from the welding seam upper side. In the figure the inspection condition and the possible laser generated sound field is drafted. The ultrasound generation is realized with a focused Nd:YAG laser beam directly on the welded seam. In first tests cross holes from less than 1mm diameter drilled in the welded seam where detected.
