Development of a compact sherographic measurement system (Reference number: Q08021)

In collaboration with the company VEW (Bremen) BIAS developed a novel shearographic measurement system. The main function is based on a Spatial Light Modulator (SLM). This allows a fast, accurate and reproducible shear alignment. In comparison with a conventional shearographic system there are no mechanical components used, e.g. tiltable mirrors. Furthermore the device under test will be illuminated by a compact and high power laser light source. Thereby the complete measuring head is a small and flexible system. The technical object surface can be excited by means of a thermal or vibration load.

The "Golden Eye" – shearographic system is shown in figure 1. Figure 2a and 2b depicts a result of a measurement under thermal and vibration excitation applied. The object has a defined defect behind the surface which can not be seen by the human eye.
