Investigations on CFRP adhesive bond quality with laser ultrasound concepts (028/232993/413)
The Project “FüFast” is part of the Bremen innovation-cluster
“MultiMat” and the technical purpose aims at concepts for
nondestructive assessment on CFRP adhesive bonds. Most interesting
point is the detection of the so-called kissing bond fault, an intimate
mechanical contact between the adhesive and the adherent counterparts
without an actual bond.
First works were executed at BIAS with the laser ultrasound inspection
technology. This method use a TEA CO2-laser type for
ultrasonic generation and an ultra stable Nd:YAG laser as the detection
source. Figure 1 gives an impression of the measured longitudinal wave
types coded with colours in the so-called C-scan. This representation
of the different running times from the ultrasound signals visualize
exactly the artificial bond fault in the center (green marked on the
sample surface). Further investigations concern the evaluation of
surface and guided wave types and also a local loading technique of a
kissing bond with laser induced shock waves.
