Investigation of the generation of low-loss planar polymer waveguides inscribed with UV-laser lithography (Vo 530/27-1)
By UV lithography planar optical waveguides will be inscribed in polymer surfaces. The fabrication process and the characterisation of these structures were already investigated. Thereby was shown that these planar optical waveguides are multi-layer optical waveguides. There exists a coupling between the modes of the upper waveguide and the lower waveguide. That is the reason for radiation loss of the guided light. This is a disadvantage for application. In this project the reducing of the attenuation of the waveguides will be investigated. The process parameters will be varied to achieve a refractive index profile that shows no coupling between the modes of the upper waveguide and the lower waveguide so that the attenuation is lower.
