Forming Behavior

Forming Limits and Springback-Behavior in Micro-Forming (SFB 747-B1)

The forming characteristics of thin metal sheets can not be derrived from the behavioral characteristics of standard-thickness sheet metal. Furthermore, indications exist that the forming characteristics of thin sheets are influenced by the applied forming-speed.

The aim of the project is to develop and identify methods for determining the forming behavior of very thin metal sheets. The attained forming characteristics can be used in consequent forming simulations. The methods developed are employed to attain forming data for novel materials, such as ones generated by means of PVD. Furthermore, the effect of the forming speed on the forming characteristics is determined.

The local strains are recorded by means of an adapted optical strain-measurement-system by the GOM corporation. The forming characteristics are observed in three distinct forming-speed-regions.
