Following the successful meetings in Detroit, Copenhagen, Sydney, Sheffield and Kiev, the conference will continue the theme of promoting the industrial use of computer technology in manufacturing and fabrication. The conference programme in 2008 will include presentations in the fields of sensors, equipment control, modelling Vision systems for process and production control and management software as a means of improving performance of Equipment Control joining processes. Mathematical modelling, in particular, is being used increasingly to improve process performance including the prediction of defects and structural behaviour. Simulation of joining and production processes is also used to control and improve production especially of automated welding plant. Emphasis will also be placed on education and training and presentations will cover the Internet which is now a principal source of knowledge on-line to engineers. Distance learning via the Internet is becoming an important tool in promoting International training and qualification.
The overall aim of the technical programme is to provide a forum for engineers and managers to gain the knowledge on novel computer based systems and innovative software for welding engineering which can be exploited to reduce production and management costs. To assist engineers and managers in their assessment of the advances in computer technology and to facilitate the exploitation in their companies, papers will be particularly encouraged on application software and industrial user experience of computer systems.
